Hymetta balteata is a white leafhopper with a brown to brownish-black transverse band just behind the wing bases. The margins of this band may be red or brownish red. The forewings are also sprinkled with red specks.
The specific epithet means girdled, a reference to the broad brown (or red) band.
Oaks are the host plants of Hymetta balteata.
The individual shown here was attracted to the mercury vapor lamp in early September.
A closely related species widespread in West Virginia is Hymetta anthisma.
