Family: Tetratomidae
Subfamily: Penthinae
Length: 11-14 mm
Pimelia obliquata lives in Virginia and other states, and probably occurs in West Virginia. The beetle shown here was photographed in the Blue Ridge of Virginia.
This species lives under the bark of dead trees, or in and around woody fungi.
There are two species of Penthe. The other, Penthe pimelia, definitely includes West Virginia in its range; it looks similar but has a black scutellum.
