In North America there are only two species in the genus Osmoderma, and both are found in West Virginia. This species, Osmoderma eremicola, is larger than Osmoderma scabra, and has smoother dorsal surfaces.
Adults of this species are most often seen around woods margins. They are nocturnal and regularly appear at lights.
