Larva, Elateridae: Agrypninae

Click Beetles / Elaters

Agrypninae larva

Compared with many other Elater larvae, the larvae in subfamily Agrypninae are somewhat flattened rather than cylindrical.

The subfamily includes seventeen genera, at least two of which are common in West Virginia, genus Lacon, and genus Alaus, the latter the genus of the Eyed Click Beetle.

The larva shown here was found under bark, with a fly larva feeding nearby. Some under-bark Click Beetle larvae are predaceous on small invertebrates, while others feed on plant material such as Slime Molds.
