Scaphytopius frontalis makes its home in the northeastern states and southern Canada. It is regularly encountered in West Virginia, primarily in the summer months.
The species is dark with a pale face. The head is short and sharply pointed.
Another common West Virginia species in this genus is Scaphytopius acutus.
