Ossiannilssonola tunicarubra is most often encountered in West Virginia in June and July.

The genus is named for Professor Frej Ossiannilsson of Sweden, for many years a leading expert on Leafhoppers. The species name means "red coat."

Dr. K.G.A. Hamilton comments, "A surprisingly rare, but widespread, insect on White Oak."
