Some taxonomists consider Eratoneura a subgenus of Erythroneura.
Eratoneura osborni feeds and oviposits in various species of Hickory (Carya species). To the south of West Virginia, this leafhopper is a pest of Pecan groves, while in West Virginia the usual host is Shagbark Hickory.
As with so many leafhopper species, this one has no official West Virginia records, due to undercollecting of leafhoppers in the state. There are records of Eratoneura osborni from Maryland and from several Ohio locales.
We have photographed Eratoneura osborni in West Virginia in August, September, and October.
