Delphacodes puella has carinae on the head and pronotum, and a white tip of the mesonotum.
The wings are hyaline to milky hyaline, and have a prominent black spot centered on the dorsum.
The antennae are thick and each has a white band.
This is one of the more widespread Delphacid planthoppers in West Virginia.
