Many Agalliopsis species are difficult to identify, but with its large "eyespots" on the pronotum Agalliopsis peneoculata is distinctive. The Latin species name means "almost eyed."
This one posed for a photograph in Upshur County in early August.
Records for this species are difficult to find, but include Ontario, Quebec, Ohio, Alabama, and now West Virginia.
