Collectors and photographers have reported finding Pedicia inconstans from April through October, in states ranging from Minnesota and Newfoundland south to Missouri and Georgia.
Adults and immatures are found in and around boggy areas with wet soil.
Members of the genus Pedicia and their close relatives have hairy eyes. A congener to watch for in West Virginia is Pedicia auripennis.
Some specialists include these Crane Flies in the family Limoniidae, while others have erected a separate family Pediciidae.
