Length: 10-16 mm

 

Nephrotoma alterna ranges from British Columbia to Newfoundland, south to Colorado and Florida. Look for adults on the wing from May through July.

Two of the traits to look for in Nephrotoma alterna are three darker stripes on the dorsal surface of the thorax, and a slight darkening of the wing tips.

The larvae develop in moist woodland soil.
