The range of Minettia magna extends from Michigan to New Jersey, and from Texas and Oklahoma to Georgia.
Adults are usually found in the woods perched on the leaves of shrubs and on other leaves at a medium height. Adults are active in West Virginia from June though October.
Minettia magna is one of the most common Lauxaniid flies found in the North America.
