Limonia (Dicranomyia) liberta ranges from Manitoba to Newfoundland, south to Oklahoma, Florida, and Bermuda.
This gray fly is common in West Virginia.
Dr. Chen Young, of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, notes that this species may form swarms prior to sundown, the swarms about five feet above the ground and typically centered above a small shrub.
