Family: Syrphidae
Subfamily: Syrphinae
America north of Mexico is home to 28 species of Eupeodes. These range across North America, from Alaska to Newfoundland and south to California, Louisiana, and Georgia.
One key trait that helps separate Eupeodes from closely related genera is easily seen in the photo at right. This is the fact that the abdomen (viewed dorsally) is margined in black.
