Uleiota dubius, Silvanid Flat Bark Beetle photo

Family: Silvanidae

Subfamily: Uleiotinae

Length: 4.5-5.5 mm

There are two species in this genus in North America. The one shown here, Uleiota dubius, is most notable for having the edges of the elytra paler than the center of the elytra.

In this photo from Upshur County in early April the little beetle is in the rich environment found under the bark of a decaying log.
