Length: 8-9 mm

 

With its stout leg spines and gold-and-black markings, Tropisternus collaris isn't easily confused with any other West Virginia beetle.

These beetles are active at least into September, and may be found around pond and lake edges. The beetle pictured here was attracted to lights.
