Length: 10-17 mm
Tarpela micans is blackish, with stripes of rainbow colors. The colors are most apparent when the light strikes them just right; the Latin species name, micans means gleaming.
On this species, the apical segments of the antennae are much shorter than the others.
These beetles are most often found under the bark of dead Hickory and Oak trees.
