Siagonium punctatum is found under the bark of dead or dying trees, particularly conifers. The species is also attracted to lights.
One other species in the genus may possibly live in West Virginia, S. americanum. This species differs by having only one punctate stria on each elytron (it is near the suture), while S. punctatum has four or five punctate striae on each.
