Podabrus rugosulus has black elytra with distinct ridges. Yellow coloration is found on the front of the head and the sides of the pronotum. The elytra are at their widest behind the beetles midpoint.
The species is typically found on foliage, and sometimes on flowers. While this particular member of the genus is fairly distinctive, it must be noted that there are over one hundred members of the genus Podabrus found in the U.S. and Canada, many of them in West Virginia.
