Dendroides canadensis larvae are commonly encountered in West Virginia, most often under the bark of logs and dead trees. Interestingly, beetle aficionados find the larvae of this species much more often than adults. (The adults are worth looking for, since the males, at least, have beautifully elaborate antennae.)
Daniel K. Young, writing in Immature Insects (1991), listed these traits (among others) of Pyrochroid larvae:
