The beetle shown here landed on the photographer’s hand, necessitating a one-handed photographic technique. Rotting wood and fungi are the more usual locations for Handsome Fungus Beetles.
In the West Virginia, this is the Handsome Fungus Beetle most often encountered. It is the only member of its subfamily found in our region.
