Chelymorpha cassidea is found on members of the Morning Glory family and sometimes on other plants such as Milkweeds and Dodder. An alternate common name is Milkweed Tortoise Beetle.
The elytra are red (occasionally yellowish brown), punctate, and only moderately flared at the lateral margins. The pronotum has six black spots. Each elytron does too, and there is a thirteenth elytral spot behind the scutellum that straddles the suture. The head is red and the basal antennal segments are reddish. The legs and the apical antennal segments are black.
