Family: Silvanidae
Subfamily: Silvaninae
Length: 2.5-3.5 mm
The genus Cathartosilvanus has only two Nearctic species, and only Cathartosilvanus imbellis is found in West Virginia (or anywhere in eastern North America for that matter).
Look for Cathartosilvanus imbellis under the bark of dead trees, where they are believed to feed on fungi.
Left: in an uncommon flight away from the familiarity of its underbark world, this Cathartosilvanus imbellis landed on a book, where the text gives an idea of the small size of this species.
