Some of the key traits of this subfamily include: six segments of the abdomen exposed; tarsi 5-5-5 though occasionally they appear to be 4-4-4. Unlike most other Rove Beetles, Paederinae larva have two instars instead of three.
Adults Paederines are found under bark, in various damp places, and sometimes in ant colonies. They may be attracted to lights, as was the Achenomorphus cortici pictured here.
