Family: Chrysomelidae
Subfamily: Cryptocephalinae
Length: typically about 2.5 mm
Clark (2000) listed records for two Exema species in West Virginia:
- Exema canadensis
- Exema dispar
Clark also mused that two other species may be present in the state, Exema byersi (with records from Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and states to the west of West Virginia), and Exema gibber (a mostly southern species, but reported from as far north as Pennsylvania).
A closely related genus in West Virginia, in which the beetles are typically larger, is Neochlamisus.
