Members of the legume family, such as Lespedeza, are the typical host plants for this leaf beetle. It is occasionally found on other plants as well.
The photo above was taken some years ago just east of the Blue Ridge in Virginia, but it is included on this West Virginia website because Cryptocephalus calidus has been reported from West Virginia. It has been collected exactly once, in fact—in July 1935.
