Family: Chrysomelidae
Subfamily: Cryptocephalinae
Length: 4 mm
This species is not as selective about food plants as most Leaf Beetles. The Dominican Leaf Beetle has been reported feeding on Sumac and Poison Ivy, Sassafras and Prickly Pear, Tupelo and Wild Grape. An 1880 report stated that these beetles ate the edges of a paper label that was in a jar with them, and that they devoured a small black caterpillar that was also confined with them.
In West Virginia, the adults of this species are most commonly encountered in June and July.
