Chauliodes pectinicornis is a nocturnal and crepuscular species, and is attracted to lights. It is found most commonly near ponds, stream backwaters, marshes, and swamps.
The wing veins have a dashed appearance, with alternating dark and light colors.
The aquatic larvae feed on tiny water creatures, algae, and detritus.
Its congener, Chauliodes rastricornis, emerges in the Spring, but C. pectinicornis is a summer species.
